Mitchell's story

This is Mitchell’s story. He was involved in a project run by In Control, with his family and carers, to look at the difference it can make having a personalised support package, tailored to meet his needs.

The personalised support package exposed the obstacles and frustrations that Mitchell and his family faced when dealing with statutory services and providers and showed how they overcame these to develop something that really worked for both Mitchell and his family.

It’s a great example of how children and young people who are technology dependent, or require 24 hour care, can still have real quality of life and are able to have the same experiences and choices that other young people have.

Mitchells mother, Jo Fitzgerald, has kindly agreed to be on the advisory board for our An Ordinary Life project. We are delighted that she is able to give some of her time to contribute to discussions and offer her advice and first-hand knowledge on how best to progress with this work.
