Spirituality and the lives of people with learning disabilities

There is a growing body of literature emerging from the health and social care professions, which suggests that spirituality is a basic human need and indeed a human right which is a necessary component of both mental and physical health.

Up until now, this dimension of the experience of people with learning disabilities has not been explored in any detail.

In 1999, Dr John Swinton of the University of Aberdeen was commissioned by the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities to carry out this feasibility study looking at the role of spirituality in the lives of people with learning disabilities.
