Pass it On: stage plan

This is a stage plan for the Pass it On project, which aims to give people with learning disabilities (and those who work with them and care for them) a better understanding of mental health.

Stage 1: Pass-it-on Teachers are trained

At Stage 1 we will be training people with learning disabilities to become Pass-it-on Teachers. Pass-it-on Teachers will lead on the delivery of the eight-week Pass-it-on training course (supported by a co-trainer).

Stage 2: Pass-it-on training is delivered

Pass-it-on training will take place once a week for eight weeks at London South Bank University (LSBU). It will be delivered by a Pass-it-on Teacher and a co-trainer.

Training is open to people with learning disabilities and their carers or supporters. It is also open to people studying a subject with links to learning disability at London South Bank University (for example, nursing, social work).

When they have completed the training the students with learning disabilities become Pass-it-on Educators. They also receive a certificate from the University.

Stage 3: Peer Support Groups are set up

Pass-it-on Educators set up Peer Support Groups in their local area supported by their carer or supporter or by the organisation that supports them (such as Choice Support, Vibrance or McIntyre). Support will also be provided by the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities. Pass-it-on Educators will not be expected to do this alone.

Stage 4: Pass-it-on Educators train their Peer Support Groups

Pass-it-on Educators deliver the Pass-it-on training to their Peer Support Groups (supported by a carer or supporter). Support will be provided to help maintain these groups once the training has been delivered.

Stage 5: Keeping the Peer Support Groups going

Peer Support Groups can be a great way for people to talk about the issues they face and help one another. Support will be provided to help maintain these groups.
