Helping families support their children into work

Although it is becoming more recognised that people with learning disabilities want and deserve a working life just like everyone else, the support is still not always there to help them to achieve this.

The National Valuing Families Forum and the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities were asked to produce a guide for families to help them overcome some of the key barriers they face when supporting their family member to find work.

This work arose from the Valuing Employment Now (VEN) programme. The aim of VEN was to increase the employment rates for people with learning disabilities. Dave Barker, a family member who is part of NVFF wrote the guide.

The guide aims to offer simple and easy to achieve tips and advice for family members who want to know where they can find support for their family member with learning disabilities to find work.
