Statistics are very important to tell us many things about people with learning disabilities and their experiences. We have put together the most important statistics about learning disabilities.
Approximately 1.5million people in the UK have a learning disability. It is estimated that in England in 2011 1,191,000 people have a learning disability. This includes 905,000 adults aged 18+ (530,000 men and 375,000 women) (Source: People with Learning Disabilities in England 2011).

Approximately 1% of the population has an autism spectrum condition.

Around 286,000 children in the UK have a learning disability.

In 2010/11, only 6.6% of adults with learning disabilities were reported to be in some form of paid employment.
