Recognising Fathers: a national survey to explore the issues faced by fathers of children with a learning disability

Photo of father with his child on shoulders

We conducted a survey to get a better understanding of the impact on men’s lives of having a child with a learning disability.

The survey covered issues such as:

  • involvement in childcare
  • changes in your paid work
  • the impact on relationships with family and friends

We also wanted to find out:

  • what you would you like to see change in the way support is provided to you and your family
  • how employers can support fathers involved in their children’s care

We will use the information to think about how fathers and families could receive better support through changes in policy and practice.

The survey was carried out in autumn 2007.

The Recognising Fathers national survey is now closed.

Thank you to those who participated. The results will appear here in the future. For more information on this project, please call 0207 803 1144.

This survey is part of our Recognising Fathers project.
