As part of this piece of work we conducted 2 research projects, 'Meeting spiritual needs' and 'Meeting religious needs'. For these projects, we examined existing information about people with learning disabilities and spirituality. We also consulted:
Through focus groups and semi-structured interviews, Professor John Swinton from the University of Aberdeen found out the views of people with learning disabilities about their spiritual needs.
As a result, we produced a report, 'Why are We Here?' This report is for service providers, faith leaders and other community leaders. More information about the report
We have also produced an accessible version of the report which you can download.

We have also produced a research report. Find out more about Religious Expression: A fundamental human right.
We commissioned people with learning disabilities to make a film for faith communities so that they can better include people with learning disabilities. They interviewed people with learning disabilities and faith leaders from some of the major faiths. The film shows people with learning disabilities talking about what faith means to them and how they get involved in worship.
Mabel, Gloria and Jason said:
‘We hope it will make people understand people with learning disabilities and make them welcome’
