Today, PRODIGY has launched a new set of materials on a range of health topics that are particularly relevant to the health of people with learning disabilities. We commissioned the leaflets which were written with easy words and pictures, making them suitable to give patients with learning disabilities or indeed anyone who struggles with written information.

Topics include common conditions such as epilepsy, diabetes, obesity and thyroid problems. The leaflets were translated into Easy Read format by the Easyhealth team at Generate from the original clinical topics on the PRODIGY website and were subjected to the same rigorous clinical quality checks as all the other information published by PRODIGY.

Alison Giraud-Saunders, Senior Policy Advisor at the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities, says:

“People with learning disabilities often have worse health than people who do not have learning disabilities, and this is something that needs to change. Having health information in Easy Read format through these new materials will enable practitioners such as GPs and nurses to help people with learning disabilities to understand some common health problems more easily. We hope that this will play an important role in improving the health and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities.”

These leaflets, as well as a number of other Easy Read publications, are available to download from the Easy Health website.
