A celebratory event for people with learning disabilities entitled ‘Celebrate Choice’ will take place on Thursday 22nd June 2000.
The event, which will include drama, videos and presentations by people with learning disabilities, has been organised by the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities, part of the Mental Health Foundation, together with the National Development Team as part of national learning disability week (17-25 June 2000).
‘Celebrate Choice’ takes place
on: Thursday 22 June 2000
at: Drill Hall, 22 Chenies Street, London WC1E 7EX
time: 1.30 - 4.30pm
admission: by ticket only (places are limited)
The event will include:
- ‘Our Future’ - a musical drama by Youth CREATE about young people making choices about jobs.
- The Markfield project - Video clips about different people’s choices. In addition, Nassis and George, with the support of their sessional workers, will make a presentation about how they have chosen community activities and also how they only recently picked up on their friendship made many years ago at school. Volunteer Gary will also be explaining what it has meant to him to work on the Choices project.
- A presentation of images and artwork by five service users from Wandsworth Rathbone, based on their project ‘Looking Forward’.
- A presentation by the National Development Team on advocacy.
- ‘Art and Power’ will be presenting a multimedia film entitled ‘This River Winding’ based on poems and illustrations by members of the group.
- And live popular music from the ‘Little Venice’ – a band with a mixture of people with and without learning disabilities.
