Title Charity Reaches National Lottery Award Finals
Full Story

Out of School Clubs for Young People with Autism - nine clubs run by the National Autistic Society (NAS) across the South-west - provides a safe environment for children and young people with autism, to develop friendships, try something new and have fun.

To win the award and the GBP2,000 prize money, the project needs to gain more public votes than the two other organisations up for the title of best voluntary or charity project in the National Lottery Awards 2009.

Amy Phipps, NAS social programmes manager, said: "We are absolutely thrilled to have reached the final of The National Lottery Awards and want to thank everyone who has supported us so far.

"Autism is a serious, lifelong and disabling condition, but the right support at the right time can make an enormous difference to people's lives.

"We hope that people will vote for us to win so that our staff and volunteers receive the recognition they deserve."

TV and radio presenter Jackie Brambles is supporting this year's National Lottery Awards.

She said: "Each year The National Lottery Awards recognise the incredible impact that Lottery-funded projects have on people and communities across the UK, and it's extra special this year as we celebrate 15 years of Lottery funding. All three projects involve teams of people who are doing great work in their communities. They've all done so well to reach the final and now they need your votes."

The National Lottery Awards are an annual search to find the UK's favourite Lottery-funded projects. Now in their sixth consecutive year, the awards recognise the difference that Lottery-funded projects - both big and small - make to local communities, and celebrate the achievements of the people behind them.

Public voting for the final starts at 9am today and ends at midday on August 14. To vote for Out of School Clubs for Young People with Autism call 0844 686 2698 or vote online at www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards.

The winner will be announced during The National Lottery: Big 7 - a star-studded BBC One television programme transmitted live on September 5.
