Standing Up for Rights
Young people with learning disabilities, and those who care for them, are entitled to a range of services depending of their age and level of need. These include:
- Assistance with housing
- Employment advice
- Access to care services and training
- Benefits such as Self-Directed Support or Direct Payments
We have delivered workshops in schools and colleges for the past two years as part our Learning 4 Leadership at Transition programme, to help young people gain confidence, and raise awareness of their rights and responsibilities.
During these sessions, local professionals and organisations are also invited to promote services that are available in the community.
We have produced an example agenda and guidance notes for teachers who may be interested in hosting a workshop at their school or college.
