At the Foundation, Molly implements policy and carries out external service development and consultancy work. This involves substantial work with statutory and independent agencies and individuals across the UK to help improve services and improve the quality of life for people with learning disabilities.
Molly has supported people with learning disabilities for over 25 years in various roles. She has worked with people living in long stay hospitals, private agencies, family homes and the voluntary sector in the USA and in the UK. She has extensive experience in management and the development of various community services, which includes agencies converting from day centre and residential services to individualised community support services and employment. Molly has worked with state and government learning disability agencies in the development, implementation, evaluation and monitoring of quality services.
Molly is involved in supporting young people and their families to access the support and services they desire when they leave school through transition planning. This has involved supporting school leavers and their families to look at options other than traditional day centres and segregated colleges.
Much of Molly’s work has focused on various approaches to person centred planning with individuals:
- training staff, self-advocates and families
- support in developing circles of support
- helping organisations to develop strategies to implement person centred approaches and planning.
Molly is a mentor trainer with the Essential Lifestyle Learning Community. She also works with the Valuing People Support Team as the Family Leadership Development Co-ordinator for the south of England. Molly is also a member of the In Control board.
Molly has a MEd (University of Missouri-St. Louis). Her most recent publication in the UK is How Are We Doing on Person Centred Planning? published by the National Development Team.
