We involve people with learning disabilities and family carers in our work by using them as advisers and consultants.
We work in various ways - as consultants, as researchers and running projects - but we ensure that learning from each area of work informs the others. Sharing our learning in this way brings benefits to all the work we do.
This approach also helps us to influence policy because we can present a rounded picture of the issues facing people with learning disabilities to national and local government.
We view people with learning disabilities as active citizens in their local communities, rather than as passive recipients of services.
We therefore promote individualised plans and support work on the ways that people with learning disabilities and their families can direct the support they need. We work with services that everyone uses to help them get better at including people with learning disabilities.
